Ephesians 6:17 tells us that the Sword of the Spirit IS the Word of God, which means the key to wielding the Sword of the Spirit is to train yourself in knowing what the Bible says. Read it, meditate on it, memorize it. Only then will you be able to use the sword effectively.
Today’s scriptures are Psalm 36–40 and Proverbs 8. These are some prime scriptures, saints. For me though, the verse of the day is Psalm 37:4.
“Delight thyself also in the Lord: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.”
Wow! It doesn’t get any better than that. The desires of your heart?!? Yes, and he means it. Interestingly enough, I have a story for this verse – a true story where I saw this verse play out right before my eyes.
It was October of 1995, and I had recently renewed my dedication to serving the Lord. In an effort to reduce the “worldly” influences in my life, I felt the need to change the music that I listed to. That’s not to say my music was sinful or anything like that, I mean music is music. With that said, very little of my music glorified God. In the spirit of “what goes in is what comes out”, I decided to start listening to Christian music, so I pawned my CD collection – all of it.
I sold all of my CD’s, but I didn’t get any new Christian CD’s to replaced them, so I was limited to the radio. One day, while driving back to my barracks room for lunch, I said to the Lord something like, “I’d sure like to find some good Christian music to listen to.” I kid you not, when I was checking my mail 5 minutes later, I found a Christian music CD offer from Hosanna! Music. As I read the offer, buy 1 CD – get 4 CD’s free, I heard these words in my spirit, “Psalm 37:4. Check it out.”
Saints, I did not know what Psalm 37:4 said. When I looked it up, I was blown away. That’s how good God is. If you ever feel like your requests are too small to bother God with, don’t believe it. He said, if you delight in Him, then he will give you the desires of your heart. Period. There is no requirement for it to be something big, God cares about the little things, too.
I hope my story is inspiring. It was a very real God moment that I will never forget. The idea that the creator of the universe cared enough to give me a few CD’s to listen to…well, it’s just amazing, but that’s how good he is.
May the Lord bless you and keep you, my friends.
